If you turn the newspapers, especially The Star, you will see many many advertisements which promises you ways to make loads of money.

One ad says “Never work again! (Through commercial properties investment) by Asia’s Queen of Property”. Another one says “How you can start a wildly profitable Ebay business part time … from home!” Still another one reads “1 1/2 weeks after the course I’ve made USD3,2000 + profits!”

When I see these advertisements, the first thought I have is “Really ah?” I think I am not the only one who is sceptical right? Does it mean if I attend and I follow, then I will be rich?

Some of these seminars are paid and some are free. I have attended some which are free and honestly, I did not really learn much from what I already read (but maybe because it is free). Most of the time, it is just to lure you there and then tell you if you buy this or if you subscribe to that, then you will be more enlightened and therefore be more prosperous.

For those who are paid, some “secrets” are still not revealed. Mostly they will talk about what was written in their books etc.

The more recent one I went to was on how to make money by trading options. I think most people went because of the “make money” part and not the “options” part so I think it is only fair for the presenter to at least touch on the basics of this concept.

Instead, the guy stood there for 2 hours blabbering about how great he was and his history of how he made it big, and yet, did not even define what options were or how it was traded etc. All that he said was that if you attend his seminars, you will find out! I know it is not good to let the cat out of the bag, but at least we should know what cat we are talking about right?!

So now, whenever I see these ads, I will usually associate it with something negative. What about you? What do you think of these ads? Will you be attracted enough to attend any?
