Public Bank’s PB Day2Day Card
Public Bank launched its PB Day2Day Card today. At a first glance, it seems to be a credit card since it goes on the Visa platform.
However, it also says that anyone who is 12 years old and above will be eligible to apply. So, that can’t make it a credit card right? Moreover, it says that there are no finance and late charges applicable.
Upon checking its website, I found out that this is actually a debit card as well as an ATM card. Since it functions on the Visa platform, it is accessible at over 29 million locations worldwide. Its features are pretty standard for a debit card except that for a limited time only, there is a cash back benefit to it.
From June 8th till Dec 7th 2009, this card will provide an automatic cash back of up to 1% on petrol and grocery spend, with a cap of RM30 per month. However, after Dec7th, the cash back is limited to 0.8% only. For other retail spend, the cash back is 0.3%, with no cap.
You can read more about the card’s features and benefit here. What’s more, to attract you, Public Bank is giving away Designer Eco Bags to first 3,000 approved cards with 6 retail swipes.
I personally do not favour a debit card, no matter what the perks are. Debit cards are supposedly able to help you manage your finances properly but then, there is no stopping you from spending all the cash you have in your account right? I still prefer to have a limited amount of cash in my wallet and set that as a limit.
What about you? Does this card make you want to sign up with Public Bank?

I was a sucker for the chic design of the card when I first saw it. But upon finding out more of what it is, then I’m not that interested. But if this debit card can be used to withdraw money from PayPal, I might just consider it!

Goh – I personally think all debit cards are the same and it is actually not really a tool to help us with our money management. I think it is more like a tool to help us spend money we have and not to get in debts with credit card. But it does not stop me from spending ALL the money I have!!
Penny – Yeah, I think the card design is not bad. Too bad the card’s features do not go well with the look of the card!

At least it doesn’t help you spend money you DON’T have.
