If you had to choose between eating at home and eating out, which would you choose?

Eating at home – somebody has to prepare and cook the meal(s), clean the dishes, clean the table, dry the dishes, throw out the trash and then only be able to sit down to relax a bit. Upside – save some money and have home cooked meals (supposedly no MSG etc.)

Eating out – just decide on the nearest joint you fancy and find a car park nearby. Order, wait (and catch up for the day) and then eat, pay the money (can also be bitching about the service levels) and then leave. Downside – apart from the meal money, you may also end up paying the government tax and the service tax. Potentially not so clean food and loads of preservatives I would think.

So, which would be a better choice? Given the economic outlook currently, a lot of people I know has been trying to cut back on expenses and chose to eat in, but the time and effort taken needs to be justified. I am personally a fan of eating out. It helps me relax in a way because I do not have to deal with the preparations and the cleaning up. I also get to clear my head a little when I wait for the food.

So, what about you? Does eating out makes financial sense?
